If you have chickens you have pets and you have lost your favorite ones, it is always the favorite to go first, it is nature or it is because they become so trusting that they might not be afraid of the predators anymore. Hopefully, yours are gone to animal heaven because of old age. Raccoons, cats and hawks are my enemy when it comes to my chickens. So I thought what is the best way to remember them by?
- One way is to recycle the passed on chicken's name, lets say you lost a Leghorn and you get another, they look identical, so I decided to keep the original name in memory of the lost friend.
- Another way is to bury the loved one in a corner of the garden where you will sooner or later have multiple graves so plan ahead.
- This is my favorite way, you burry the loved one in a huge pot in the bottom if you ever are thinking of moving in the future so you can take her with you and plant a fruit tree in the pot.
- However, if you know you are not moving you can bury her and place one of the below beautiful an meaningful memory stones on top.
- Now there is another favorite of mine after you cremate your chicken you dig a hole to plant a fruit tree and you put the ashes in the hole and then some dirt and then the little tree. I suggest to get an olive tree, or mano, or avocado, or dates they all live to over 600 years, dates even 2,000 years and your memory stone or plaque can be placed right near the tree so that over the years it can slowly grow into the trunk and nobody will be able to remove it. Your legacy is completed and your chicken will live forever and your grandchildren will enjoy the fruit for generations to come.
