Believe it or not, those are absolutely a life saver. Many friends have confirmed to me that their rooster also was pulling out the feathers from the hens head and neck when mating. I had thank goodness only two those were his favorites, boy did the hens learn to run over time, faster than a jet plane.
If you want to protect your precious angels you need a helmet. Not only are the tremendously protective but they are cute as well don't you think? So take your pick how many of your hens are being molested by the rooster king and when you receive them put them on right away.
Another way to protect your hens from your rooster are saddles and you can cut 2/3 of your rooster's spurs and file the rest roundish or order some caps. You can also put peepers on him. At the end is a list of categories where you can find other protective gears.
